Microphone installation
For technical reasons, the original microphones from Audi, Mercedes, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen cannot be used. There are several ways for the Kufatec FISCON microphone to be installed.
- Left upper corner of the windshield
- Between speedometer and steering wheel
- On the interior rear mirror
- Near the overhead interior light
For optimal voice quality and lowest installation cost, we recommend the position
at the top left corner of the windshield. If an invisible installation is preferred,
the microphone can, under certain circumstances, be installed in the interior
overhead light. There are additional steps needed for this option, detailed
below.
When the microphone is properly fitted, a very good sound quality can be achieved. We guarantee the best sound quality but only when the microphone is fitted in a visible location.
Installation position interior light
When installing in the overhead interior light, it is very important that no exterior sounds reach the microphone. Noise from outside and the engine are present between the headliner and the vehicle roof, so this installation ensures that only interior sound reaches the microphone. Utilizing the "blind" foam plug already installed in many overhead lights is a perfect way to insulate the microphone from exterior noise.
Below is the installation using an existing blind plug described. In many vehicles it is already present in the interior lamp. This blind plug has the dimensions 5.9 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm. The pictures show the inner light of the VW Golf V, but the light and plug location are similar in many VW & Audi vehicles.
This installation option is only feasible if an appropriate space in the interior light is present. Please not that it is not possible in the Audi TT 8J or Audi R8 due to very tight installation.
In this inner light, you can see the blind plug supplied (black foam).
With a knife cut a 2-3mm slit in both sides of the blind plug and remove the cut material.
Open the FISCON microphone with a small screwdriver. Take care not to damage the wire as cut/broken cable are not covered by the warranty.
Carefully remove the microphone from the protective cap. DO NOT pull on the wires at they can come apart from the microphone. We remind you that torn wires are not covered by the warranty.
Install the microphone into the blind plug, taking care to protect the wires.
Make sure that the microphone is flush with face of the blind foam plug.
Once the fit is confirmed, install the microphone into the vehicle and then plug it into the inner light. The lateral pressure on the foam will ensure the microphone is completely enclosed and insulated.
From the driver's position, the microphone is easily accessible behind the grille.
If the conversation quality while driving is not satisfactory, the back of
the microphone can be further insulated with additional adhesive caulk. It is
important for the the microphone to be completely blocked for the best possible
sound quality.
Furthermore, an improvement in sound quality could be possible through a slight increase of the microphone gain through the setup menu.
